(ANSA) - Rome, May 14 - Family Minister Lorenzo Fontana on Tuesday presented two amendments to the government's growth decree containing a slew of measures in favour of the family.
The so-called 'baby bonus' will be broadened to include more of the middle class, he said.
The new means-tested threshold to get the benefit will be raised to 35,000 euros a year, the minister said.
As well as this "incentive to have children", Fontana said, there will be tax breaks for buying nappies and powdered milk.
"We are continuing a serious and concrete policy for relaunching births after almost a year everyone in government has realised that a demographic boost is the challenge for the country's development and future.
"They have become my disciples," said the conservative League party member.
League leader Matteo Salvini, the deputy premier and interior minister, said "concrete help for families has finally come, from the League".
