7 countries sign treaty in Italy

(ANSA) - Rome, March 12 - A key step in the construction of the largest network of radiotelescopes in the world, called SKA, was taken in Rome Tuesday with the creation of the observatory that will have to realise it.
    Seven countries under Italy's lead signed an international treaty that sets up the SKA Observatory (SKAO), which is set to become the second intergovernmental organisation in the world dedicated to astronomy after the European Southern Observatory (ESO).
    The other signatories were Australia, China, the Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa and Britain.
