Amendment makes it harder for foreigners to get basic income

Non-EU applicants must get wealth declaration translated

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, February 20 - The Senate's labour committee has passed an amendment that will make it harder for non-EU nationals to obtain the government's new 'basic income' citizenship wage.
The amendment, presented by Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Matteo Salvini's League party, means that non-EU applicants will have to obtain certification of their income and wealth from their State of origin.
This document will then have to be translated into Italian and approved and stamped by the Italian consular authorities. Refugees who are from countries from which it is not possible to obtain such certification will be exempt. The labour minister will have three months to prepare a list of these countries.
