(ANSA) - Turin, February 18 - The EU has reiterated its willingness to provide half of the funding for the main tunnel of the Tuin-Lyon high-speed rail (TAV) line, Piedmont Governor Sergio Chiamparino said Monday.
This will mean halving the costs for Italy of the Italian part of the line from 1.7 billion euros to 850 million, he said.
It would also mean a further 10% cut in the cost of the tunnel.
The senior government partner the 5-Star Movement (M5S) is against completing the project citing a cost/benefit analysis.
The M5S's partner the League is not convinced by the analysis and wants the project to go ahead.
