Boldini, Erwitt, Calabria shine in new shows in Italy

(ANSA) - Nationwide exhibits in January are showcasing a wide range of artists, from Elliot Erwitt in Pavia to Giovanni Boldini in Bologna, Ennio Calabria in Rome and Lombardy's 1800s painters in Lecco.
    PAVIA - An exhibit on photographer "Elliot Erwitt. Icons" will close on January 27 at the Scuderie del Castello Visconteo.
    The show is curated by Biba Giacchetti to trace back the career of one of the leading photographers of the 20th century with 70 photos.
    ROME - A show on painter "Ennio Calabria. Verso il tempo dell'essere. Opere 1958-2018" (The time of being) is curated by Gabriele Simongini and will be open at Palazzo Cipolla through January 27. A total of 80 paintings and pastels are on display to highlight Calabria's keen perspective on the contemporary world.
    FLORENCE - The fashion museum Museo della Moda e del Costume at the Pitti Palace is hosting on January 8-May 5 an exhibit called "Animalia Fashion" on how the world of animals inspires contemporary designers. The connection between high fashion and nature is highlighted through the work of designers from a number of countries including France, China, Russia and Italy.
    CATANZARO - The 30-year-long career of Wolfram Ullrich (Wurzburg, 1961) and the complexity of his reflections on art are at the center of the show "Coordinate e convergenze" (coordinates and convergences) curated by Alberto Zanchetta.
    The show, with 30 masterworks by Ullrich, is open until January 27 at the Marca Museo delle Arti in Catanzaro, Calabria.
    BOLOGNA - Painter Giovanni Boldini's drawings, including work never shown to the public, will be showcased until January 19 at the Gallery Bottegantica. "Giovanni Boldini. 50 opere su carta" (50 works on paper), by curators Stefano Bosi and Enzo Savoia, highlights the artist's talent for drawing.
    MILAN - This coming weekend is the last to admire the monumental 1584 painting by Antonio Campi "Santa Caterina visitata in carcere dall'imperatrice Faustina" (St. Catherine visited in prison by Empress Faustina) at the Museo Diocesano Carlo Maria Martini.
    The masterwork has just been restored and will be exhibited until January 13, when it will be taken back to the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Milan. Also at the Museo Diocesano Paolo Veronese's Adoration of the Magi will be on display until January 20.
    LECCO - Some 80 paintings and drawings by the main protagonists of 19th-century art in Lombardy (including Francesco Hayez, Medardo Rosso and Giovanni Segantini) are at the center of the show "Ottocento Lombardo" (Lombardy's 1800s) at the Palazzo delle Paura until January 20.
