Draghi is poisoning the climate - Di Maio

ECB president said Italy should respect EU budget rules

(ANSA) - Rome, October 26 - Deputy Premier and Labour and Industry Minister Luigi Di Maio on Friday accused European Central Bank President Mario Draghi of souring the political climate amid tension between Rome and Brussels over Italy's draft budget plan. On Thursday Draghi said that Italy was a factor of uncertainty for the eurozone's economic outlook, along with Brexit and the threat of an international trade war. He also called on the Italian government to respect the EU's budget rules.
"In my opinion, it is the time to cheer on Italy and I'm astounded that an Italian has further poisoned the climate in this way," Di Maio told State broadcaster RAI in an interview set to be screened later on Friday. "We are preparing a budget that is on the side of the weakest".
