(ANSA) - Rome, September 26 - Newly crowned Miss Italia Carlotta Maggiorana is to keep her title despite the publication of nude pictures of her, the beauty contest's watchdog committee said Wednesday.
The committee said the photos were "not incompatible" with the rules of the pageant.
"I'm very happy, but I had no doubts because I have always adhered to a correct conduct in my life," said Maggiorana, stressing that the phots had been taken "by surprise, in fact stolen". It was announced last Thursday that Maggiorana might be stripped of her title because of the photos, which appeared in the magazine Oggi.
Organising company Miren said it had five days starting Thursday to deliberate on the matter.
Marche native Maggiorana, 26, won the contest on Monday of last week ahead of Campania's Fiorenza D'Antonio.
Chiara Bordi, an 18-year-old who was the victim of online haters after becoming the first disabled Miss Italy contestant, came third.
Bordi, from Tarquinia near Rome, lost her leg in a car crash a couple of years ago.
