The riddle of millions of plastic discs washed up on Tyrrhenian beaches in the last few days was solved Thursday when they turned out to be filters from a purification plant on the River Sele near Salerno.
The discs had baffled beachcombers from the Amalfi Coast in the south to Tarquinia in the north.
