(ANSA) - Milan, November 17 - Italian stock-market regulator CONSOB said Friday that it has suspended trading in troubled lender Banca Carige. The suspension comes after Carige said Thursday that it had failed to get a 560-million-euro share issue underwritten.
The European Central Bank has demanded the capital increase to ensure the lender remains viable.
CONSOB took a similar step with Monte Paschi dei Siena last December before a bailout. The bank has until Monday to find underwriters for the cash call, which must be completed by December 31.
