Spada transferred to maximum security jail

Moved from Regina Coeli prison in Rome

(ANSA) - Rome, November 16 - Roberto Spada, a suspected member of a criminal clan in the Rome seaside district of Ostia who was arrested after a brutal attack on a RAI journalist on November 7, has been transferred to a maximum security jail at Tolmezzo, in the northeastern province of Udine, sources said Thursday. The decision was linked to the fact that Rome's Regina Coeli prison is not equipped to hold inmates like Spada and the "environmental conditions" were not right at other jails in Lazio, the sources said. Tolmezzo also holds Salvatore Buzzi, a former chief of several cooperatives who is among the alleged ringleaders of a massive corruption case in the capital.
