Algerian imigrant jumps off Jesolo roof

(ANSA) - Venice, August 23 - An Algerian immigrant threw himself off the roof of his two-storey home in Jesolo near Venice and is in serious condition after the 10-metre fall, police said Wednesday after vainly trying to to talk him down. Police were called to the premises by the immigrant's partner who reported that he had beaten her in an umpteenth domestic row.
    The man, who reportedly has a record for drugs offences, kept on drinking beer while the Carabinieri talked to him and then suddenly took a run-up and threw himself off the roof.
