(ANSA) - Reggio Calabria, December 7 - The mayor of Bova Marina, Vincenzo Crupi, was among 14 people arrested on Wednesday in a Carabinieri police operation against Calabria's powerful 'Ndrangheta mafia.
Crupi was placed under house arrest on charges of corruption in relation to the contract for rubbish collection in his municipality.
Investigators say this is 'controlled' by the historic Iamonte clan operating in the province of Reggio Calabria.
The deputy mayor and tourism chief of Brancaleone, respectively Giuseppe Benavoli and Alfredo Zappia, and the former mayor of Melito Porto Salvo, Giuseppe Iaria, were also placed under house arrest on the same charges.
