'Rome Madoff' Lande gets 4 yrs, has to pay out 1 mn

(ANSA) - Rome, December 2 - The Italian fraudster Gianfranco Lande was on Friday sentenced to four years in jail and ordered to pay provisional damages totalling one million euros for fraud, illegal financial activities and obstructing the activities of the financial watchdog authority.
    Lande, dubbed the "Madoff of Parioli", tricked savers out of over 170 million euros. Italian satirist Sabina Guzzanti and the film director brothers Carlo and Enrico Vanzina are among those who suffered financial loss at his hands.
