(ANSA) - Milan, October 25 - The 100th Giro d'Italia will start on May 5, 2017 in Alghero, the first of three Sardinian stages, and will land back in peninsular Italy after two stages in Sicily, organisers said Tuesday.
The round-Italy classic, the world's second-biggest stage race after the Tour de France, will end with an individual time trial from the Autodromo di Monza to Milan's Duomo, where the winning pink jersey will be awarded.
In all, the race will cover 3,572.2 km including six sprinters' stages, seven medium climbs and six steep climbs, and two time trials.
The race is organised each year by RCS Sport-La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Last year Vincenzo 'the Shark' Nibali won his second Giro.
