(ANSA) - Ferrara, October 25 - Ferrara Prefect Michele Tortora said Tuesday a protest in which locals raised barricades against the arrival of 12 women refugees in the nearby town of Gorino had succeeded in knocking their arrival off the agenda.
"Either we manage this phenomenon together with good sense or we don't manage it," Tortora said. "The idea of hosting the refugees at Gorino is no longer on the agenda," he said. "The tranquility of public order has prevailed, we certainly couldn't beat people with batons". Tortora called Monday's incident "a very sad episode" and said he felt for the women who had come on a very long journey to find barricades facing them. He said it Gorino citizens had understood the case better "perhaps it wouldn't have happened".
