Muraro being probed for abuse of office, Italian press says

With former AMA chief Giovanni Fiscon say Messaggero, Corriere

(ANSA) - Rome, September 30 - Rome environment chief Paola Muraro is under investigation for abuse of office together with former AMA public waste utility chief Giovanni Fiscon, who is already a defendant in the city's sprawling 'Capital Mafia' trials, according to reports on Friday by Italian dailies Il Messaggero and Corriere della Sera.
The accusations came through new wiretap conversations that were added to the investigation's evidence regarding the organisation led by Capital Mafia kingpins Salvatore Buzzi and Massimo Carminati, along with new documentation seized from AMA offices, Corriere della Sera reported.
In his role as AMA chief, Fiscon hired Muraro as a judicial consultant in trials against him personally, which public prosecutors deemed illegal for violating national contract stipulations for public utility managers, Il Messaggero said.
Muraro, a member of Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi's embattled cabinet, is already under a separate investigation for suspected unauthorized waste management during her 12 years as consultant for AMA.
Asked about the fresh probe reports, Muraro said she had not been informed she was under investigation again.
She told ANSA her conscience was clear and she would carry on.
"The problem in Rome is waste trafficking, not me," she said.
