Another Olympic bid unlikely for 20 years says CONI chief

Malagò says nixing bid has hit credibility

(ANSA) - Cagliari, September 23 - Giovanni Malagò, the president of Italian Olympic Committee CONI, said Friday that Italy is unlikely to make another bid to host the Olympics in the next 20 years after Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi nixed the capital's bid for the 2024 Games. "Anything can happen, but it seems unlikely to me that there will be another bid in the next 20 years," Malagò said.
"We have a table with three legs - the city council, the (central) government and CONI. Without one of the legs, the bid loses strength. "We accept this situation, aware of the loss of international credibility". A poll by the Ixè agency for State broadcaster Rai said Friday that 58% of Italian people wanted Rome to host the 2024 Olympics.
