Don't submit to interests, Pope Francis tells journalists

(ANSA) - Vatican City, September 22 - Pope Francis on Thursday urged journalists not to "submit to partisan interests, whether they be economic or political". Receiving in audience the national council of the Italian journalists' guild, he said "living with professionalism means above all - beyond what is written in the ethics code - understanding and interiorising the deep meaning of one's work." The pontiff made three recommendations to the journalists' representatives: "Love truth, a fundamental thing for all, but specially for journalists; live with professionalism, something that goes well beyond laws and regulations; and respect human dignity, which is much harder than you might at first think".
