Regional governor suggests banning rude tourists from Venice

'Reservations key to preventing overcrowding'

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Venice, August 23 - The governor of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, has suggested a ban be placed on tourists found behaving badly in Venice. He was speaking in light of several incidents that have been complaining online concerning tourists that sleep in the city streets and use them as toilets. "Venice," Zaia continued, "is a museum and world heritage (site), and we must be strict on those who commit certain acts.
I would expect the same sort of indignation as that shown towards acts against large ships." On the issue of overcrowding in the city, he said that the idea of making reservations compulsory "would solve all the problems, since by now this is done for everything from skiing to cinemas. So it would not be problematic to plan a visit to Venice online."
