New trash plan effective immediately says Muraro

(ANSA) - Rome, July 27 - Rome city cabinet member for the environment, Paola Muraro, said Wednesday the capital should be clear of trash "by August 20".
Muraro, who is from Mayor Virginia Raggi's anti-establishment 5-Star Movement, said AMA trash collection agency has submitted a clean-up plan which "contains what we requested for a swift return to regularity". Resigning AMA chief Daniele Fortini came up with the plan after Muraro barged in on his office on Monday, demanding action on Rome's rapidly deteriorating uncollected trash situation.
The new plan hatched sometime between Monday and today reportedly covers recycling, regular trash, landfills, and street cleaning. On Tuesday, Fortini announced he is stepping down on August 4. Also on Wednesday, Muraro told ANSA city government is actively looking for somebody with an appropriate technical background to replace Fortini.
"We're looking at CVs," she said. "Citizens must rest assured that the M5S chooses based on merit not politics, which is what we're doing".
