(ANSA) - Giffoni Valle Piana (Salerno), July 19 - The young audience at Giffoni Film Festival near Salerno gave a warm welcome to Evanna Lynch, who plays the independent and unconventional Luna Lovegood in the blockbuster Harry Potter movies.
The 24-year-old Irish actress is at the festival in the guise of protagonist of My Name Is Emily, a moving story of a difficult teenager who makes a painful journey of discovery. However, most of the questions put to her by fans concerned the saga by Scottish author J.K Rowling, including the decision to give the part of the adult Hermione to black actress Noma Dumezweni in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the two-part theatre sequel to the last film in the series that picks up the story 19 years on. "I consider it to be the right decision," Lynch said.
"Hermione is a libertarian in spirit, she fights for those in difficulty, it makes total sense to imagine her as part of a minority. One of the most beautiful things about J.K Rowling, which for me is a point of reference, is the way in which she uses her characters to send a message". Lynch also said she would be happy to play the adult character if Warner turns the stage version of the new chapter in the Harry Potter saga into a movie. "I am not ready to abandon the character entirely and I think I would be jealous if it were assigned to someone else," she said.
Lynch also advised young aspiring actors to "read a lot and broadly, stay pure and be yourselves; this will help you in a world that is not always easy".
