Woman mauled by pit bulls dead

(ANSA) - Milan, June 17 - A woman who was mauled by her two American pit bulls terriers died in hospital Friday.
    The dogs attacked the woman, 76, in her yard in the Lombard town of Inverigo.
    Neighbors alerted authorities, and Carabinieri police had to fire a shot into the air to scare the two dogs away long enough to rescue the woman, who had gone into cardiac arrest.
    The dogs had toppled her to the ground and bitten one of her ears off. Police found it in the grass and handed it over to ambulance personnel.
    The pensioner, who had lost a lot of blood, was choppered to Niguarda Hospital where she went into surgery and died shortly after.
