(ANSA) - Rome, May 31 - The parliamentary anti-mafia
commission on Tuesday listed 14 candidates as 'unpresentable' in
June 5 local elections.
Seven were in Battipaglia: Carmine Fasano, Daniela Minniti,
Lucio Carrara, Francesco Procida, Bartolomeo D'Apuzzo, Demetrio
Landi and Giuseppe Del Percio.
Five were in Rome: Antonio Carone, Domenico Schioppa,
Antonio Giugliano, Fernando Vendetti, and, the only one bidding
for a Rome council place, Mattia Marchetti.
Two were in Calabria: at Scalea, Carmelo Bagnato and at San
Sostene, Alessandro Codispoti.
In particular, the commission said, Alessandro Codispoti,
Giuseppe Del Percio and Domenico Schioppa are not eligible and
should therefore resign in the event of election.
Fernando Vendetti, Mattia Marchetti and Giugliano
Antonio do not meet the standards of self-regulation voted by
all parties on the commission.
Finally, Demetrio Landi, Bartolomeo D'Apuozzo, Francesco
Procida, Lucio Carrara, Daniela Minniti, Carmelo Bagnato, Carone
Antonio and Carmine Fasano are not fit for candidacy under the
Severino anti-corruption law.
Anti-mafia chair Rosy Bindi said all 14 were candidates in
civic lists, which, she said, were "gateways for the mafia".
"The situation is, overall, encouraging," she said," even
though some data are worrying".
