(ANSA) - Florence, May 26 - An initial estimate of the damage created by a 200-meter-long hole that opened up Wednesday in a central road in Florence running along the Arno is of five million euros, Mayor Dario Nardella has said.
''I want to know who is responsible, based on what technicians from (water company) Publiacqua will tell us'', he said, stressing he wanted ''immediate'' answers.
The mayor has said the hole appears to have been caused by a burst water pipe in the Lungarno aqueduct.
On Thursday, water shortages were still reported in areas of Florence.
Nobody was injured in the incident, which occurred on Lungarno Torrigiani, between Ponte Vecchio and Ponte alle Grazie bridges.
Some 20 cars parked in the area fell into the hole.
