(ANSA) - Milan, May 24 - New head coach Conor O'Shea said Tuesday that he was aiming to build the best-ever Italian national rugby team and considers winning the Six Nations a possibility for the Azzurri.
"I hope to make a difference for the Italian rugby movement," the 45-year-old Irishman told a news conference to present him in Milan.
"I want to build the best-ever Italy team.
"I'm proud and honoured to have received this opportunity. I think it's possible to win the Six Nations, otherwise I wouldn't be here". The former Harlequins coach replaces Frenchman Jacques Brunel, who had been in charge for a largely disappointing stint from 2011.
Indeed, the humiliating defeats the Azzurri suffered in a whitewash in last year's Six Nations fuelled talk that they were not good enough for Europe's top competition for nations, with some saying there should be promotion to allow countries like Georgia, Russia and Romania to have a go.
