Ancient Roman villa in Positano to open in July

Perfectly preserved by AD 79 Vesuvius eruption

(ANSA) - Naples, May 13 - An ancient Roman villa that was preserved in perfect condition by volcanic lava in the eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79 will open to the public in July, officials said Friday.
    The luxurious villa was discovered last year under the Santa Maria dell'Assunta church in the village of Positano on the Amalfi Coast.
    "It is a perfectly preserved archeological treasure of enormous artistic value," said Culture Undersecretary Antimo Cesaro of the villa extending under a great part of what is now central Positano and all the way to the beach. It has perfectly preserved frescoes, vases and other objects.
