Italy vivisection laws 'too restrictive' says EC

Infringement procedure after complaints from scientists

(ANSA) - Brussels, April 28 - Italy's law on vivisection is too restrictive, the European Commission said Thursday in a letter announcing the opening of an infringement procedure.
    Italian research institutes have complained to the EC that national laws put them at a disadvantage with respect to their colleagues in other European countries. Italy has two months to respond. EU rules on using animals for scientific experiments are more lax than Italy's.
