Global recovery 'too slow' says Lagarde

(ANSA) - New York, April 5 - The global economic recovery is "too slow, too fragile", the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christina Lagarde said on Tuesday.
    "The good news is that the recovery continues; we have growth; we are not in a crisis," said Lagarde.
    "The not-so-good news is that the recovery remains too slow, too fragile, and risks to its durability are increasing," she added. "Let me be clear: We are on alert, not alarm. There has been a loss of growth momentum," Lagarde continued. "However, if policy makers can confront the challenges, and act together, the positive effects on global confidence - and the global economy - will be substantial," she said.
    Lagarde lauded recent policy moves by the European Central Bank and the US Federal Reserve, but said "monetary policy can no longer be the alpha and omega to (economic) recovery".
    Governments need to take greater action in support of growth, she added.
