Pope to meet Lizzy, American girl going blind

(ANSA) - Rome, March 29 - Pope Francis to meet Lizzy Myers, a five-year-old American girl who is set to go blind and suffer hearing loss, in the next few days.
    The parents of Lizzy, who is affected by Usher syndrome type II, a rare genetic condition, last year said that they had made a visual bucket list of "must-see things" before her sight leaves her.
    Touched by the story, Turkish Airlines' general manager Tuncay Eminoğlu offered Lizzy and her family a return ticket to any destination of their wish.
    Lizzy, whose parents are both Catholic and whose mum is of Italian origin, opted to come to Rome.
    The girl added that she wishes to see the pope, at least once.
    Lizzy, her parents Steve and Christine, and her sister, Kayla, were planning to meet the pope at the end of his general audience on Wednesday.
    But after missing a connecting flight, the family will not arrive in Italy in time.
    So they are set to meet the pontiff at Casa Santa Marta, the residence inside the Vatican where he lives, in the coming days.
    The family will also get a reception at Rome city hall.
