(ANSA) - Rome, February 19 - Interior Minister Angelino Alfano on Friday said the arrest of Ferrara clan boss Domenico Ferrara and six others late Thursday is a "hard hit" to the Camorra.
Ferrara was arrested with right-hand men Vittorio Amato and Rocco Ruocco as well as four others in a raid by 150 police officers who surrounded the clan's compound in Villaricca on the outskirts of Naples.
They are accused of aggravated mafia-type extortion.
"It's always good news to know that little by little we're driving out the many local bosses, in order to weaken organised crime more and more," Alfano said.
"It's not only a victory for the State but also a relief for honest citizens".
Ferrara had recently made headlines after police seized hundreds of cell phones allegedly used to rig call-in voting on a TV talent show in which his daughter was a contestant.
