Campania health officials 'illicitly spent 16mn'

(ANSA) - Naples, February 5 - The Campania Audit Court on Friday found regional public health officials illicitly spent 16 million euros in taxpayer money because they appointed too many head and deputy head physicians in the southern region's public hospitals. The appointments were in excess of government-imposed guidelines under a spending review aimed at cutting waste in public finances. Finance police are notifying the officials of the court's findings, sources said.
