(ANSA) - Genoa, February 4 - A Genoa man in his early 20s died in a fire in a mountain chalet at Villars in Switzerland's Canton Vaud on Thursday, police said. Geneva police have not named the victim but local sources say he is the 21-year-old son of Gianni Onorato, the CEO of MSC Cruises. Police said identification might take some time.
Another 20-year-old who was in the same third-floor flat saved himself from the fire by jumping, police said. Neighbours arranged mattresses on the ground to cushion his fall and he is now in hospital receiving treatment for severe shock. On Thursday afternoon MSC gave its condolences to the Onorato family for the "terrible tragedy".
The fire broke out around 5 am local time in a four-storey chalet in the Rochesgrises neighbourhood.
The cause of the blaze has yet to be established, police said.
In all 15 people were evacuated. Villars, near Geneva, is a popular winter and summer mountain resort famous particularly for its private international ski schools.
