Jubilee parole for 98 prisoners to work Rome green spaces

Green light for project financed by fines treasury

(ANSA) - Rome, January 21 - The board of the fines treasury, headed by the Chief of the Prison Department Administration (DAP), has approved a project for 98 inmates from Rome prisons to work on maintaining green spaces, improving the tidiness of the Eternal City and helping pilgrims attending religious ceremonies for the Jubilee of Mercy, officials said Wednesday.
The prison administration already in November approved the Jubilee project entitled "I Begin again from Rome," for 20 inmates to take part in a parole scheme doing similar activities in a voluntary unpaid role.
The latest decision for a concrete example of mercy to prisoners follows agreements between Justice Minister Andrea Orlando and the provisional Special Commissioner for Rome Fransesco Paolo Tronca.
Top security prison Rebibbia will provide the inmates including eight women serving prison sentences.
All will receive special training and will work between 25 and 40 hours a week for 11 months.
Financing will be 49,500 euros to cover insurance and anti-accident equipment and the work is due to begin in February.
