(ANSA) - Rome, December 10 - A hostel and soup kitchen run by Catholic charity Caritas at Rome's Termini station reopened on Thursday following renovations that began in 2010.
"I hope that this house becomes the home of hope," said Vicar-General of Rome Agostino Vallini at the opening ceremony.
During the celebrations, the Holy Door of Charity that Pope Francis is set to walk through on December 18 was unveiled.
The door, a work by artist Father Marko Ivan Rupnik, is one of several holy doors that will be opened as part of Francis' special Jubilee year.
Other holy doors will be based at Rome's four principal basilicas and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Divine Love. More Doors of Mercy will be opened around the world to mark the Holy Year, which started December 8 and runs until November 20, 2016.
The hostel at Termini has welcomed the homeless, poor and immigrants for 25 years. The renovation work will allow it to host 180 homeless people.
