Save-banks decree victims move accounts - group

Account holders 'forced into buying subordinated bonds unawares'

(ANSA) - Rome, December 7 - Account holders who lost money as a result of a recent government decree to save four struggling banks are transferring what is left of their savings to other credit institutes, the group 'Victims of the Save-the-Banks' said in a statement Monday. The alleged victims all had accounts with Banca delle Marche, Banca Popolare dell'Etruria e del Lazio, Cassa di Risparmio della Provincia di Chieti or Cassa di Risparmio di Ferrara, at the centre of the November decree.
"They were forced into buying subordinated bonds unawares," the statement said. Critics have described the operation as a "bail-in in disguise". Reports say over 100,000 account holders have been affected by the measures.
