Orlando calls for more tech tools to intercept terrorists

'Monitor Playstation chat'

(ANSA) - Rome, November 26 - Justice Minister Andrea Orlando told a security summit for the Jubilee Thursday that more high-tech tools are needed to intercept potential terrorists.
He said capabilities must be bolstered, also with more translators, and there must be greater cooperation among various prosecutors' offices, with the help of the latest computer technology.
Orlando said that Playstation chat was one of the "numerous communication opportunities" that must be monitored for terrorists.
"The use of Playstations has been flagged and so we have to monitor all forms of messages with new tools," he said.
A "political battle" is meanwhile required to help set up a new European anti-terror prosecutor's office, Orlando said.
"We are asking to set up a European anti-terror prosecutor's office...but this is a minority position within the EU," he said.
The Jubilee Holy Year of Mercy starts December 8 and runs until November 20 next year.
