(fixes last paragraph with updated company info)(ANSA) - Rome, November 25 - The building that used to host Italy's mint in Rome's Piazza Verdi will be turned into a luxury hotel by Rosewood Hotels and Resorts International Limited, which is controlled by New World China Land Ltd. The move was announced in statement by Italian State investment bank Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP).
The letter of intent between the CDP-controlled Residenziale Immobiliare 2004 S.p.A. and Rosewood, among others, was signed last Friday, the statement said.
The project envisages building an extra-luxury hotel with around 200 rooms, a convention centre, restaurants, a swimming pool, a spa, and about 50 private residences managed by the hotel operator.
The restructuring of the building is scheduled to start when the definitive binding contracts are signed in a few months' time, the statement said.
Rosewood manages 18 luxury properties in 11 countries, with 15 new hotels under development. It aims to operate 50 hotels by 2020, the company said in a note.
