(see related)(ANSA) - Rome, November 23 - Leftwing dissenters
within the ruling center-left Democratic Party (PD) on Monday
objected to proposed new rules banning ex-mayors from running
for the same post again.
Top PD officials said the party is considering the new rule
after the former two-time mayor of Naples, Antonio Bassolino,
announced he would run in the mayoral PD primaries next spring.
"Political problems should be dealt with politically, not
by changing the rules," said ex-PD Lower House whip Roberto
Speranza.
"It's never a good idea to change the rules in virtue of
the candidacy of one individual," said Gianni Cuperlo, who ran
in the party primary that crowned Premier Matteo Renzi.
