Is selling arms to Saudi Arabia legal? Grillo asks Renzi

M5S chief calls for immediate halt on arms sales to Saudis

(ANSA) - Rome, November 23 - Anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) chief Beppe Grillo asked Premier Matteo Renzi on Twitter Monday whether it's legal to sell arms to Saudi Arabia.
"Is it really legal to sell arms to Saudi Arabia @matteorenzi?" wrote the comedian-turned-politician, who leads Italy's second-largest party.
"The Saudis - whom everyone indicates as the indirect supporters of (Islamic Sunni) fundamentalists - have been bombing Shiite rebels in Yemen for months," Grillo tweeted.
"These bombings have caused thousands of civilian casualties (including 830 women and children). Italian-made bombs have been found in Yemen. And yet Italy in 1990 passed a good law (...) explicitly banning the sale of military materials and components to countries in a state of armed conflict".
Grillo went on to call on the government to immediately halt arms sales "to all the sheikhs" in the name of national security.
