Varoufakis RAI fee sparks furor

Ex-Greek finance minister got paid 24,000 euros to appear on talk show

(ANSA) - Rome, October 28 - Opposition parties were up in arms Wednesday over an alleged 24,000-euro fee paid to ex Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis for appearing on a leading talk show aired by state broadcaster RAI.
The economics professor was interviewed by Fabio Fazio for 22 minutes during an episode of his flagship programme Che Tempo Che Fa at the end of September. On Wednesday, the Huffington Post reported that the former Tsipras ally - who ruffled feathers among his European counterparts during negotiations for a third Greek bailout that subsequently collapsed - received 24,000 euros for taking part in the programme, as well as a first-class flight to Italy. The revelation was borne out by a disclosure on Varoufakis' own website, and was slammed by politicians on the center-right as "scandalous" and "an abomination".
RAI has so far refrained from comment.
