(ANSA) - Bologna, October 28 - A Senegalese asylum seeker was detained Tuesday after he allegedly tried to rape a woman.
Police say the 22-year-old suspect sexually assaulted a 48-year-old blue-collar worker in the village of Mezzolara di Budrio in Bologna province, while she was on her way to work. The victim said the man grabbed her from behind, groped her and tried to take her clothes off.
She resisted and called for help, and he fled when a vehicle approached. She then contacted Carabinieri police and gave a detailed description of the offender.
The victim then picked the suspect out of a photo lineup and also identified him without hesitation once he was picked up.
The man lived in a facility for asylum seekers, where he had been moved two weeks ago along with fellow Senegalese who had reached Sicily in a migrant boat.
