About 99% of Italian youth pessimistic about job prospects

(ANSA) - Rome, October 27 - A total of 99% of young Italians between the ages of 15 and 24 are pessimistic about their job prospects, and 55% are ready to emigrate in search of better opportunities, a survey by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) showed Tuesday.
    Gianni Rosas from the Italian branch of the organisation said it was likely that perceptions of limited job opportunities and the deteriorating quality of work were fuelling the pessimism.
    Italy's youth unemployment rate stands at more than 40% and following the global economic crisis many young people are increasingly having to accept part-time or poorly paid jobs on temporary contracts.
    The Gallup survey in the youth unemployment report, presented by trade union CGIL on Tuesday, showed that the rate of pessimism in Italy was significantly higher than in peers such as France, where it stood at 82%, and Greece, at 78%. The global youth unemployment rate stood at 13% in 2014, according to the report, up from 11.7% before the crisis. It is expected to reach 13.1% in 2015.
