(ANSA) - Rome, October 22 - Eight Italian regions are
undertaking health service restructuring programmes aimed at
cutting costs in order to balance budgets, the coordinator of
regional budget councillors Massimo Garavaglia said on Thursday.
Lazio, Abruzzo, Campania, Molise, Sicily, Calabria,
Piedmont and Puglia are all taking part in the programmes.
Methods include increasing the portion of treatment costs that
patients have to pay, as well as tax measures.
A report released by the national agency of regional health
services, which tracked the budgets of 108 Italian hospitals in
2014, found that 31 were in the red and 24 were at risk of
having to take part in the programme.
