(ANSA) - Rome, October 13 - Premier Matteo Renzi said
Tuesday that the government was ready to change the laws
regulating industrial action to combat overuse of strikes unless
a deal is struck between trade unions and firms.
"If there is no agreement between the unions and the
companies, we are ready to intervene with a law on (worker)
representation," Renzi told the RTL 102.5 radio station.
"The right to strike is indisputable, but a situation in
which every Friday one union gets up and says let's halt the
city is not possible," he said referring to a long string of
transport sector strikes that have hit Rome commuters especially
hard.
"If there is a minimum percentage for public transport,
you don't bring it to a halt".
