(ANSA) - Rome, October 8 - Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has reached a preliminary agreement with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union on a new labour contract, the Italian-American company has announced. The deal averts the danger of a strike by the carmaker's workers in North America.
UAW leaders will meet in Detroit on Friday to discuss the details of the deal, which must now be ratified by union members. "(The agreement) addresses our members' main fears concerning their jobs and future," UAW President Dennis Williams said.
"Important gains" have been made, he added. A first tentative deal on a new labour contract announced in September was subsequently rejected by FCA workers.
