Secret services to use Expo as model for Jubilee security

Focused on protecting Rome, Vatican, other religious sites

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, October 6 - Italy's intelligence services are already working at full capacity to prevent and tackle terror threats linked to the special Jubilee year called by Pope Francis, which is due to start on December 8.
Security plans for the event will be modelled on those put in place for the Expo world fair in Milan, sources familiar with the matter cited the director of Italy's domestic intelligence agency Arturo Esposito as telling the parliamentary intelligence committee.
Security services' attention will be focused on the Vatican and Rome, but other religious sites in the country that could attract pilgrims will also be monitored.
At the moment intelligence authorities are intensively monitoring risks that could be posed by Islamist groups and Internet propaganda that could radicalise people in Italy, Esposito said.
