EU opens procedure agst Italy on banking deposits

(ANSA) - Brussels, October 1 - The European Commission has opened a procedure against Italy for failing to adopt a directive on Deposit Guarantee Systems (DGS), EU sources said Thursday.
    The letter was sent last month, the sources said.
    Another 17 countries have also failed to apply the directive.
