New mortgages rose by 89.1% in first 8 months of 2015 says ABI

Borrowing by families totals 28.92 billion euros

(ANSA) - Rome, September 29 - The value of new family home mortgages rose by 86.1% in the first eight months of the year over the same period in 2014, the Italian banking association ABI said Tuesday. The figure is based on a sample of 78 banks corresponding to approximately 80% of the market. New mortgage loans totalled 28.92 billion euros in the period January-August 2015, compared to 15.543 billion euros in the same period last year. Borrowing by families in the first eight months of the year also exceeds that in the same period in 2013 and 2012, which stood at 12.089 billion euros and 13.924 billion euros respectively.
