(ANSA) - Geneva, September 29 - Over half a million migrants
and refugees have made the sea crossing to Europe since the
start of the year, the International Organisation for Migration
(IOM) said Tuesday.
Latest figures put the number of registered arrivals at
522,134, of which the vast majority - 388,324 - have arrived in
Greece.
By comparison 130,891 have arrived in Italy and 2,819 in
Spain.
The sea crossing in the Central Mediterranean is by far the
most dangerous, with 2,691 registered deaths or missing persons
out of a total of 2,829 since the start of the year.
However there has been a growing number of fatal incidents
in the Aegean in recent weeks, IOM said.
