(ANSA) - Messina, August 24 - An Irish ship on Monday
morning brought 225 asylum seekers to port in the Sicilian city
of Messina.
They were rescued from unseaworthy vessels in the Strait of
Sicily between northern Africa and Italy, and were received at
the port by public health staffers, police, and volunteers.
The newcomers will be lodged in the city's migrant
reception centers after health checks and initial
identification, sources said.
